hi again!
Welcome back to this absolutely crucial guide on becoming the photography client of my (or any other photographer's) dreams! So far, we’ve tackled reading your contract (it’s basically our prenup) and showing up on time (because daylight doesn’t do overtime). Now let’s talk about something truly radical: trusting your photographer. Remember this isn't a bashing client's rant (I love you guys) but more of a dive into the subjects I see photographers in my facebook groups talking about. Here we go, part 3......
Stop Worrying and Let Your Photographer Be the Boss of You
Listen, I get it. You’ve spent hours curating a Pinterest board so beautiful it could bring a tear to Beyoncé’s eye. (honestly, same)
But let’s face it: the second you’re in front of the camera, panic sets in. Am I standing weird? Why does she want me to tilt my head like that? Oh no, my smile feels like I’m auditioning for a toothpaste commercial gone wrong.
Here’s the thing—your photographer knows what they’re doing. When I tell you to lean, turn, or do some other random move that feels bizarre, it’s because I can see what you can’t. I’m a pose wizard. I know where the light hits you like a masterpiece and where shadows make you look like a villain from a bad soap opera. Trust me; I want you to look amazing—we’re talking jaw-dropping, grandma-crying-when-she-gets-the-Christmas-card amazing.
Now let’s talk about the whole “unposing” thing. Forget those rigid, mannequin-like poses from department store photo sessions of the past. (unless we're talking the funny awkward ones from a certain department store that rhymes with KC Lenny, because seriously, nothing beats those am I right?) I’m going to ask you to walk toward me, giggle like your crush just texted you, or dramatically toss your partner’s hand in the air like you’re reenacting a rom-com moment. It’s going to feel ridiculous—and it’s going to look incredible. Those are the photos where your personality shines, and your “OMG, we’re actually cute!” moment comes to life and always end up being everyone's favorites!
So, let go of the control and let your photographer call the shots. We’ve got this—promise!
